There are statutory and regulatory requirements in logistics that must be taken into account by the Program Manager (PM). Support strategies must ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements. These requirements must be considered as an integral and evolving aspect of all Life-Cycle Management decisions. The PM must also follow Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) guidance, as well as appropriate DoD Directives and Instructions. The main statutory and regulatory requirements and DoD Directives and Instructions are:
- 10 USC 2464: Core Logistics Capabilities
- 10 USC 2466: Limitation on the Performance of Depot Level Maintenance of Materiel
- 10 USC 2474: Centers for Industrial and Technical Excellence: Designation; Public-Private Partnership
- DoDD 4151.18: Maintenance of Military Materiel
- DoDI 4151.19: Serialized Item Management (SIM) for Materiel Maintenance
- DoDI 4151.22: Condition Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) for Materiel Maintenance
- DoDI 8320.04: Item Unique Identification (IUID) Standards for Tangible Personal Property
