CAGE Codes

A Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code is a unique identifier assigned to suppliers to US government and DoD agencies. A CAGE codes provide a standardized method of identifying a given supplier and facility at a specific location. The information associated with a CAGE code includes name, address, phone numbers, business type, number of employees, and other information specific to a supplier. Contracts issued by a government agency or the DoD will be tracked by a supplier’s CAGE Code.

Definition: The CAGE Code is a five position code that identifies contractors doing business with the Federal Government, NATO member nations, and other foreign governments.

Note: Registration in the Cage Code Registry (CCR) database is required prior to the award of any contract, basic agreement, blanket ordering agreement or blanket purchasing agreement unless the award results from a solicitation issued on or before May 31, 1998.

Any US organization wishing to be a supplier to the DoD cab be issued a CAGE Code by the Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS). DLIS provides the capability:

A CAGE Code is also required for registering in the System for Award Management (SAMS). If you are a vendor located in the U.S. and do not have a CAGE Code, a CAGE Code will be assigned when you register in the CCR System for the first time. A foreign vendor must contact its country representative to receive its National-CAGE Code assignment.
